Personal Projects

This is where I will be posting some projects and images that I've shot just because I wanted to, or I was suddenly forced to take out my camera because something caught my eye!

Conagra Implosion, Huron, Ohio. Saw online that they were going to implode the building and since I'm from Sandusky, Ohio it gave me a good excuse to head back to the old hometown and then cover this in the morning. Waited about 3 hours before the implosion occurred then proceeded to fill my Nikon's buffer too quickly. Here are a few from that morning though.

Not the Implosion

While waiting for the 'big moment' I couldn't take my eyes off of how impressive the smoke was coming out of the towers. There were hundreds of gulls on the shore here also. Once the fireworks went off the mass exodus was pretty impressive too. Did a little touch up for drama. Image copyrighted Sydney's Studio/ Robert Hofer

First Blasts

This is the first capture of the explosives going off. I believe that's the ODNR's boat in the foreground. There were a couple of other boats in the water one was environmental and I don't recall what the other was for. A few seagulls who weren't scared away by the fireworks are now taking flight. A 7 year old boy, Maxwell Hinton, from California got to push the button to start the demolition thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Image copyrighted Sydney's Studio/ Robert Hofer
And the walls came down..

And the walls came down..

The angle I chose to shoot from was a bit different from where most of the photographers were at. I staked out this area because I had a good view of the 2 corridors leading across. I thought if I could freeze the action it would add to the feeling of movement and destruction. Image copyrighted Sydney's Studio/ Robert Hofer

in a cloud of dust

Last image of the day! The other buildings were taken down with more traditional methods the following day. Image copyrighted Sydney's Studio/ Robert Hofer

Avengers Chaos Downtown Cleveland

I took my wife and daughter down to see the Cleveland Browns versus the Detroit Lions preseason football game back in August. I stayed downtown while they were at the stadium and ended up down where they were shooting exteriors for The Avengers movie. Although the area was blocked off and there was security present, I was able to get a few nice shots!

Another 'After the Blast'

Another 'After the Blast'

Another 'After the Blast' image. What was really kind of surreal that night was that a young oriental gentleman came up to me while shooting and asked if this was a terrorist attack. He was very mater-of-fact about the question as though he wouldn't have been surprised if I said yes. I tried to explain to him, but he didn't quite grasp it until I reached over and picked up a massive wall, since it was foam and hardly weighed anything. Then I mentioned Iron Man and I think at that point he understood.
Flowers Left For ?

Flowers Left For ?

These flowers really stood out against the wall, I suspect that it is important imagery in the film. I know that Thor, Iron Man and Captain America  were doing battle in the streets, but don't know who it is that left the flowers. Buckeye Bucks Football
